The Parish
As part of the Anglican Church in Wales and in the Diocese of Llandaff, the parish of Saint Theodore is in the town of Port Talbot, South Wales - situated 30 miles west of Cardiff and 7 miles east of Swansea.
The parish historically consists of three churches from where the mission and ministry of the parish extends. They are the Parish Church of Saint Theodore, Holy Cross (the Chaple of Ease), and the church of Saint Peter in Goytre.
It is our hope that through this website you may not only learn what you wish or need about the parish but may also momentarily join the life of the parish, especially through prayer, no matter where you may be.
Saint Theodore
St. Theodore's church became the Parish Church of Port Talbot on 15th June 1901. It remains a vibrant centre of the parish's worship and mission naturally living and reflecting an Anglican Catholic faith and spirituality.
St. Theodore's church is built in Gothic style cruciform shape elegantly situated within its own grounds. Which in turn forms part of the whole St. Theodore's complex of the Church, Vicarage, Youth Hall and Parish Hall.
Holy Cross
Holy Cross church (or the Chapel of Ease as it sometimes referred to) was consecrated on 15th September 1827 having been built on land given by Mr. Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot. The whole of the land that makes up the surrounding graveyard was given, at different times, by the Talbot family.
Originally within the Parish of Margam, Holy Cross became part of the Parish of St. Theodore in 1901.
Saint Peter
St. Peter's church, Goytre, is the Mission Church of the Parish. It was opened on 31st January 1915.
St. Peter's actually began life in Morfa but following the closure of the colliery there Miss Emily Charlotte Talbot appreciated the need for a place of worship in Goytre and bore the expense to have it dismantled and then reconstructed it its current location. It is currently the only public building in the village.
